The General tab holds a widget’s basic settings. Each widget has its own settings, so if you want several widgets to behave the same, apply the same settings to each one.
Some settings are grouped in cards. Click a card to unfold it. The preview on the right updates as you change settings, but nothing reaches your website until you click Save at the top of the page.
The General tab of a launcher widget, with the live preview
Which settings you see depends on the widget’s layout. API widgets have their own General tab, described below.
The name is only used inside Raffle, for example in the widget list. Change it in the Widget Name field.
Launcher widgets can use either one or both. With both on, visitors can switch between search and chat. One of them must stay on, so you can only turn one off while the other is on.
Pill widgets are always chat-only. Overlay and embedded widgets are search-only. If search or chat isn’t part of your plan, the toggle can’t be turned on; contact Raffle Support to add it.
Template switches the widget’s layout between Launcher, Embedded, Overlay and Pill. See Widget types for what each one looks like. Switching to the pill turns chat on and search off. For embedded widgets, enter the Element selector: the CSS selector of the element on your page where the widget is placed, for example #target-element.
#target-element
Top questions are suggestions visitors can click instead of typing, for example your most frequently asked questions or a campaign. They appear when the widget opens.
Editing the top questions
You can paste several questions at once, one per line, for example a column from a spreadsheet. Copy all copies the list, one question per line.
When chat is enabled, Show top questions in chat also lists them in the chat.
To decide which answer comes first for a question, see Re-rank, or send a list of questions and their target URLs to Raffle Support.
Visibility settings for a launcher widget
By default the widget loads on every page where the Raffle script is installed. Unfold Visibility to limit that.
Enter a domain in Restrict usage to domain, for example example.com. The widget then runs only on pages of exactly that domain. A leading www. is ignored, so example.com also covers www.example.com, but other subdomains, such as shop.example.com, don’t match.
example.com
www.
www.example.com
shop.example.com
Under Hide widget on pages, enter the path of each page where the widget shouldn’t appear, for example /about rather than https://example.com/about. If you paste a full URL, only its path is used. Click the plus to add another path.
/about
https://example.com/about
Each path also hides the pages below it:
Paths are case-sensitive and must start with /.

For launcher widgets, turn on Hide widget on landing page to hide the widget on your website’s homepage.
Choose the language of the widget's labels
Unfold UI Language and choose a language from the list. This changes only the widget’s labels and placeholders, not the answers. To change individual texts, use the Text tab.
The available languages are Chinese (Simplified), Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Norwegian Bokmål, Norwegian Nynorsk, Polish and Swedish.
The chat answers in the language of the visitor’s first message, whatever the UI language is (see Chat).
Intro Banner settings for a launcher widget
For launcher and pill widgets, the intro banner shows a prompt when a visitor hasn’t used the widget for a while.
A GDPR disclaimer for the search field
Shows a short privacy notice with the widget’s search field, for example asking visitors not to share personal information.
To link to your privacy policy instead, use Add a link on support page on the Support tab.
Turn on Open links in the same tab to open links from the widget in the current browser tab instead of a new one.
API widgets have no visual widget, so their General tab is different:
